Summary Description:
The GIS analyst will have a solid knowledge base of geographic information systems.
Responsibilities:
Tasks will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Complete data and engineering analyses
- Conduct GIS mapping and prepare written reports
- Data development, standardization, and maintenance for all environmental GIS data
- Ensure spatial data meets standard metadata and attribute requirements
- Prepare documents, including spatial data gap analysis and quality assurance reports
- Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Marine Science, GIS, Remote Sensing, or related field, and a minimum of 4 years of directly related experience
- Knowledge of the methods, principles and practices used in map preparation; the basic principles of cartographic technology
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within general guidelines and direction
- Demonstrated history of self-motivation and use of problem solving skills
- Ability to learn to program in GIS, relational and spatial databases, and web languages
Preferred:
- Knowledge of and experience with geographic information systems
- Experience working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
